Carnivale was a drama set during the Great Depression in the Dust Bowl region of the US. Carnivale takes the unique process of starting with two separate story-lines, then slowly working them together into one. The first story follows a man with the power to heal. He joins a traveling circus that passes by his home and is set on a strange quest to find a man that had once traveled with the same circus years earlier. The second story centers around a Methodist preacher. He shares visions with the man in the carnival and slowly discovers that he too has powers. He is able to bend a persons will and is able to manifest their greatest fears, sins and evil into terrifying visions.
Carnivale is ultimately about good vs. evil and the series takes a unique look at the age old issue. Things are never as they seem on Carnivale.
