Laverne & Shirley is a situation comedy that follows the lives and antics of Laverne De Fazio and Shirley Feeney who are best friends and roommates in Milwaukee. The series is actually a spin-off of Happy Days and premiered to strong ratings. The girls' neighbors Lenny & Squiggy were the neighbors that they loved to hate and were loved by fans. The series situations were quite funny, but they also had a lot of 'physical comedy'. In the first few seasons, the episodes often revolved around the girls employer 'Shotz Brewery'. By the sixth season, the girls packed up and moved to California (Burbank). This is the time when many fans stopped tuning in as much. At the end of season seven, Shirley (Cindy Williams) left the show due to contract disputes and that left Laverne without Shirley in the final season (season eight). The series was very successful at it's height and is considered to be a classic. Some of the characters will be forever recognizable in pop culture (Lenny, Squiggy, The Big Ragu, Mrs. Babbish...just to name a few).
