Miami Vice aired on the NBC Network for five seasons (1984 - 1989) and starred Don Johnson as Detective James "Sonny" Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Detective Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs.

Miami Vice followed the lives of undercover detectives in the Miami, Metro-Dade County police department. Miami Vice became a huge hit with it's gritty stories, pop fashion and music that was woven into each episode. In fact, Miami Vice was one of the first series to use visuals and music to greatly enhance the plot and feel of the show. Add in the exotic Miami Beach location and it was ratings gold.

Miami Vice dove into the police undercover world by centering most of the stories around drug trafficking and prostitution. Each episode was heavy on drama and action. You could always count on a car chase or gun battle at the climax of each Miami Vice episode. The series was created during the music video age, which is one of the reasons the producers chose to integrate music and vivid images. Miami Vice was mostly shot in Miami in it's South Beach district. At the time of the show, the area was quite different than it is today. Back then, it was quite neglected and filled with crime. I guess we can have Crockett and Tubbs to thank for South Beach's huge transformation into one of the World's hottest, hippest locations.
