Smallville is actually another series based on the DC Comic character Superman. First airing on the WB Network, after it's fifth season, Smallville moved to the new CW Network. In April 2009, Smallville was renewed for a ninth season.

Smallville is based on the Superman character, but takes a different spin on the story. The series is actually a story about Clark Kent and how he becomes Superman. The first season follows Clark in high school and how he has to adjust. We all know how tough high school can be...but imagine if you had super powers and could tell no one. Along with the social aspect of trying to fit in, Clark must also deal with 'issues' that pop up relating to 'meteor infected' people with powers. The series uses that phrase to explain villains that have special powers after the meteor shower hit Smallville when Clark arrived to Earth.
Since the series aired for longer than the four years it would take to finish high school, the plots got a little more adult and the theme of the series also changed. Lex Luthor is in this series, but in a slightly different way. Lana Lang and Lois Lane are also in the series. Kryponite is still Clark's weakness and there are many other DC Comic characters that show up after season five. Smallville is a series that takes a fresh look at the Superman story and it's quite fun to grow up with Clark. As he gets older he learns of the different powers he has and still has to deal with modern social issues. The funny thing is, he still doesn't know how to fly by season eight. The series also pokes fun at itself with lots of clever dialogue as well.
