The Librarian is a character based on a character from the Discworld novels and were turned into special 'made for TV movies' on the TNT Network. The movies star Noah Wyle as a sort of 'Indiana Jones' character that is brought into a secret United States organization that protects ancient world artifacts. The artifacts are in a vault inside of the National Library and are guarded by 'The Librarian' (Noah Wyle). Most of the artifacts hold secrets and special powers and The Librarian must track down lost or stolen items which often get him into lots of trouble.

The Librarian movies are quite entertaining and envoke the spirit of Indiana Jones. Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) plays the Librarian well. Flynn is not your typical adventure seeker. He has some trouble settling into his new role and is quite clumsy at times. These characteristics make the series very entertaining, mixing action/adventure with some comedy and sci-fi/fantasy. With three movies under TNT's belt as of 2008, they actually have potential to keep the movies going.

The first movie, The Librarian: Quest for the Spear, first aired in 2004. It deals with Flynn being hired as 'The Librarian' and with him discovering the true destiny of the role. The movie also follows Flynn as he has to find the pieces of stolen Spear of Destiny. It is said that the person that has the complete spear, can control the destiny of the world.

The second movie, The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines, first aired in 2006. Now that Flynn knows what to expect (as least he thinks he does), he has to deal with keeping the secret with everyone in his life. Flynn received a scroll in the mail that is actually a map to King Solomon's Mines. The scroll is stolen which leads Flynn on a globe trotting chase to unravel the clues and find the mines first. Flynn is also told that the Solomon's Book is hidden in the mine and will allow the reader of it control over time and space, so he must ensure the book stays hidden.

The third movie, The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice, first aired in 2008. Flynn appears to be quite comfortable with his role by now. Comfortable doesn't mean that he's always making the best choices. He wants a vacation and is granted one...or at least he thinks it's a vacation. Flynn's 'vacation' leads him to New Orleans, where he discovers a plot by former Soviet KGB agents to resurrect the vampire Prince Vlad Dracula. Dracula would create an invincible army of vampires and would help them control the world. Flynn unravels the clues to the plot and has to race against time to stop it. He also has to figure out exactly how the resurrection is supposed to be carried out.
